LAMOND RECREATION CENTER
Washington, DC

Developed for the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, Lamond Recreation Center is designed to revitalize and enhance the mind, body, and spirit of its users as well as the surrounding urban community. The new one-story, 14,650-square-foot facility utilizes a number of sustainable principles to provide the District and the neighborhood an environmentally efficient recreation facility for the future.

While the sustainability of the site and building was a primary goal for the project, most important was the development of the building’s appearance to ensure that it was sensitive to the forms, scale, and rhythm of the surrounding neighborhood. In order to achieve this, natural materials such as brick and copper siding were used. The project features a rainwater reclamation system; state of the art monitoring and controls; and a comprehensive education system on the greening of the facility.
