Howell Carnegie Library
Howell, Michigan
Given the community’s growth over the years and new designation
as a district library, the Howell Library embarked on a major building
restoration and expansion project. QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS was
engaged for the restoration of this historic Carnegie library,
which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The elegant historic entrance was retained as the primary entrance
to the facility. To accommodate this, QE|A designed a new access
ramp configuration, including a low concealing wall of granite
that blends with the existing granite facade of the structure.
Interior restoration of ornamental mouldings and historic finishes
and restoration of the sky-lit central rotunda have opened the
building to light and provide inspiring public spaces for library
patrons.
