Grosse Pointe South
High School Auditorium
Grosse Pointe, Michigan
The elegant architecture has been fully restored in the 430-seat
auditorium at Grosse Pointe South High School. Designed in 1928
with a Greek Revival theme, the auditorium features six elaborate
chandeliers and walls decorated in faux Caen stone.
Removed from the auditorium are the effects of 1950s and 1970s
modernizations that had included fluorescent lights, acoustic ceiling
baffles, and the conversion of the balcony to classroom space.
The decorative paint scheme of subtle creams and rich burgundy
was re-introduced, along with gold leaf in the ceiling medallions
and proscenium arch. New electrical and mechanical systems, barrier-free
seating, and contemporary theatrical lighting and sound systems
also contribute to the renewal of the space.
The auditorium now provides an uplifting environment for the
school’s musical and theatrical productions, class meetings,
and community group events.
