Grand Rapids Civic Theatre
Grand Rapids, Michigan
In funding the renewal of this successful community theater’s
facilities, a local philanthropic organization sought to take advantage
of the Civic Theatre and School of Theatric Arts’ central
downtown location to connect other recently revitalized areas of
the city.
The glass walls of a dynamic new front entrance reveal
the activity within the building, and at night the building shines
like a lantern into the downtown neighborhood. The narrow, three-story
atrium addition created more lobby and circulation space for arts
patrons and fulfills space needs for front-of-house functions.
Reconstruction of the distinctive historic corner tower helps define
this block with a recognizable icon along a busy thoroughfare.
The 1903 Greek Revival theater was fully restored as part of this
comprehensive renovation and expansion. This project was developed
and implemented in association with Tower Pinkster Titus Associates,
Architect of Record. |
