At Play on the Bay Exhibit Building
Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
St.
Michaels, Maryland
Located along the once industrial waterfront of St. Michaels,
the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum houses one of the largest collections
of historic watercraft in existence.
Designed to house exhibits
demonstrating the change of use of the Bay from work to play, the
new 7,500-square-foot exhibit building incorporates vessels from
the collection, as well as provides greater public access to the
waterfront.
QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS worked to ensure an accurate
representation of the site’s traditional past; the design
responds to the site’s historic industrial character as a
cannery complex dating back to the 1800s. The building’s
relationship to the water, outdoor views, and the incorporation
of the museum’s collection of watercraft—both indoors
and out—were also integral to the design solution. |
