Bay City Celebrates the Opening of Pere Marquette Depot

16 June 2008

Officials in Bay City, Michigan held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Pere Marquette Depot. QE|A executed the renovation and adaptive reuse of the historic structure which is now open to the public after six years of planning. QE|A's Ilene Tyler, FAIA, FAPT was on hand to celebrate with City officials and residents.

Bay City’s recently awarded Preserve America’s Communities designation was due in large part to the project which satisfies the portion of the application that requires a community-supported ''historic or cultural preservation project that promotes heritage tourism or otherwise fosters economic vitality. ''

  Armory Arts Building Receives 2008 Governor's Award
May 2008
The rehabilitation of Jackson, Michigan's Armory Arts Building was recognized with a 2008 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation at a ceremony held in the State Capitol Rotunda May 15th. QE|A led the project, which involved the adaptive use of three historic prison buildings to create 62 affordable lofts, galleries and studios for artists, utilized funding from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
 
       
 

Three Cheers for the Distillery

The reconstruction of George Washington's Distillery at Dogue Run Farm, part of the Mount Vernon Estate, was honored with awards from the Virginia Society AIA, AIA Northern Virginia, and Wood Design & Building magazine. QE|A led the authentic reconstruction, which utilized late-18th century techniques and materials.

  Maritime and Yachting Museum of Florida selects QE|A New Facility Design
March 2008
QE|A has been selected to design a new facility for the Maritime and Yachting Museum of Florida to be located at Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach. The project calls for a new 28,000- to 30,000-square-foot facility that will house the collection of the current museum. QE|A is currently working on a Concept Master Plan for the museum.
 
       
 

Baird Smith Elevated to College of Fellows by The American Institute of Architects

February 2008

Baird Smith has been elected to the College of Fellows of the AIA for his notable contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture. He has shared his extraordinary knowledge base, has helped shape the field of preservation technology, and is a national leader in materials conservation and sustainable design for historic structures.

An Investiture of Fellows Ceremony will be held at the 2008 National AIA Convention and Design Expo in Boston in May.

 
     
 

QE|A Gets Go-ahead for New Court and Police Building

November 2007

The City of Ann Arbor has given QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS the green light to complete design documents and construction services for a new court and police building. The design, produced in association with OWP/P, is based on the team’s master planning and concept design and will house the city’s police department, 15th District Court and official vehicle parking. The project also includes partial renovation of the existing city hall, designed by Alden B. Dow in the early 1960s.

 
       
 

QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS Selected to Restore National Academy of Science Building

November 2007

The National Academies has selected QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS for the restoration of National Academy of Sciences building. QE|A will provide preservation and design for comprehensive upgrades to the 132,000-square-foot facility integrating contemporary systems while renewing and conserving the historically significant structure.

 
       
 

Zingerman's Delicatessen Selects QE|A for Expansion Project

November 2007
Zingerman’s, the nationally acclaimed delicatessen and bakery has selected QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS to lead the planning and design for the expansion of its campus. Located on a historic site in downtown Ann Arbor, the deli has been cited in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and on PBS. The project will expand dining and support spaces and consolidate more of the Zingerman’s community of businesses within one campus.

October 2007

QE|A is pleased to announce that Ann Dilcher, AIA, Tina Roach, AIA, LEED AP, and James Thompson, AIA, LEED AP were elevated to Associates of the firm. Ms. Dilcher works in the Ann Arbor office, and Ms. Roach and Mr. Thompson are based in Washington, DC.
