American University School for International Service
Washington, DC

QE|A, in partnership with William McDonnough + Partners, is designing a new building to integrate the academic and administrative facilities of American University's School of International Service. This new building will consolidate the School of International Service under one roof. The University's goal for the building is to reflect sustainable design principles; the building is designed for LEED Silver Certification. The QE|A team is utilizing building information modeling (BIM) in the development of the project.

 
 

 

 

 

Mixed Use Infill Development - Woodward and Willis Streets

Detroit, Michigan

A small city block at Woodward and Willis Streets in Detroit's Cultural Center illustrates the potential of new design to strengthen the character of important historic avenues. The new construction will feature mixed use retail/commercial on the first floor and 22 condominium units on the second and third floors.

 
 

 

 

 

Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater

Washington, DC

After renovating the Concert Hall and Opera House at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, QE|A is now designing the renovation of the facility's primary drama venue - the 1,142-seat Eisenhower Theater. The renovations will significantly improve the general appearance and aesthetics of the 1971 theater, while also enhancing the experience for both the audience and performers.

 
 

 

 

 

Fort Gratiot Lighthouse

Port Huron, Michigan

A professional team led by QE|A has assessed the conditions of the Michigan's oldest light station and summarized its recommendations, along with historical research on the site, in a Historic Structures Report. In operation since 1829, the U.S. Coast Guard light station is being acquired by the City of Port Huron and will become a part of the Port Huron Museum.

 
 

 

 

  Potter Stewart U.S. Courthouse
Cincinnati, Ohio

QE|A is designing the modernization of the 1939 Potter Stewart U.S. Courthouse. This $30 million GSA Design Excellence project includes exterior restoration; design of a new courtroom, judges' chambers, grand jury suite, and satellite U.S. Attorney's Office; and the modernization of additional public spaces.
 
 

 

 

  Belgian Ambassador’s Residence
Washington, DC

The residence of the Belgian Ambassador to the United States is a two-story limestone structure which was built in 1932 and modeled on the Parisian Hôtel de Rothelin-Charolais. QE|A is responsible for the comprehensive renovation and major modernization of this 26,000-square-foot Beaux Arts residence, addressing issues of safety, stabilization, efficiency, comfort, and aesthetics.

 
 

 

 

 

Hot Springs National Park
Hot Springs, Arkansas


QE|A is preparing a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) on Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. Comprehensive mapping and a written landscape history of the historic 5,000-acre park prefaced the development of the CLR and accompanying environmental assessment.

 
 

 

 

 

Church of the Ascension and St. Agnes
Washington, DC

QE|A is preparing a comprehensive master plan for this historic church complex built circa 1874 in the Victorian Gothic style along the historic Massachusetts Avenue corridor in Washington, DC. The master plan will address integrated repair, replacement, and upgrade treatments. Recommended treatments will respect the historic and aesthetic character of the facility while addressing short- and long-term needs.
